While it was time to bring home our tomato plants I don't know if I am ready for this, will I be able to water my plant on the daily and measure its growth or will my plant just die at home. My plan of action is to first get my tomato plants home okay so I can at least try and grown them. I will give them half sun exposure by putting the plants on the side of my house and watering them at night so that they may be able to absorb the water and it won't be hot when I water. Time to see if my plants live.

To find a locally sourced meal on Hawaii is very hard considering that we have most of our foods either flown in to Hawaii or shipped by boat. We are very reliant on the main land and not on what our island can produce. I think it is mainly because of the fact that we have too many people on Oahu. But for my locally sourced meal I went to Kahuku Farms. All of the food that they sell there is locally grown in their farm. I ate on of the açaí bowls and I believe that it is one of the best ones that I have ever ate. I took a tour of the farm and their was so much plants all over the place.
I felt empowered by this field trip because I got to see lands and all that the people who live over their are keeping it looking nice. All of the foods that they grow on their is local. They have zones for all of the different types of plants. They uphold the lands to where they don't even want one weed on in the patches.
During this quarter I learned that there is a lot more about this island than we really know about. We only know that it is the islands of Hawaii and that they emerged from the oceans. We don't know the meaning of the places on the islands. We don't know what the meaning of the lands are and we don't know about the people who fought for our land. Ive learned that we need to give thanks to the people who came before us for protecting out island and allowing us to live our lives now.
Hawaiians these days claim that they are Hawaiian but do they truly know what being a Hawaiian means. Im not saying that it means that we all go and work in the lo'i everyday or we live in grass huts but it just means expressing and living out your Hawaiian culture. We need to be proud of who we are but we need to act proud of out ethnicity. To be a true Hawaiian you just have to live and express yourself and be proud of being Hawaiian like our ancestors before us and the uncles and aunties that are still with us.
On Tuesday we will be going on a huaka'i to mokauea to clean up the island and learn more about it. I am looking forward to learning about what that island is about and find out the history. I want to help clean up all of the trash that is on the island and show that I care for the land. I also want to see if we can flip the canoe while we are paddling over to mokauea.
A Hawaiian scientist is someone who studies the ways that the Hawaiians before us lived and showed us the way of life. I believe that they analyze the land and what is going on in it. Also what happened to the lands before we came to this island.
As hurricane lane had approached the islands of Hawaii I was not to startled at first but I was a little concerned because my household was not ready for hurricane lane. We did not board up anything and we did not buy that much food. If we were to be hit hard by lane my household would not be a good place to stay. I live in mililani which is in the middle of the island and the skys everyday from Thursday to Saturday the skys were grey and not appealing to the eye. The sun was not seen through the whole day. But on Sunday the skys started to clear as lane passed and weakened. Then the whole island was relived but angry because they had bought a lot of supplies for nothing.I believe that Mālama Honua means that we must Malama the land and the things that we use from it. All of the plants and foods that we have one the land we need to appreciate it and take care of it before it goes away and we can never live off the land again. I also believe that it means that we need to clean up after our messes that we make. The land is a gift from our ancestors and we can't take it for granted and we need to appreciate what they gave to us.
